Paraplu® Pure White Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'RWoods7') delivers crisp, luminous flowers that appear from midsummer into early fall. This deciduous shrub generally reaches five to eight feet tall, bringing a refreshing focal point to garden beds or landscaped borders. Its large, pure-white petals create a striking contrast against deep green foliage. Based on our observations, this variety offers a cleaner, more refined appearance than many other white Rose of Sharons.
Though the blooms carry no prominent fragrance, pollinators often visit them throughout the season. The sturdy, upright habit makes this shrub ideal for hedges or accent plantings, and deer rarely bother its foliage. We’ve seen it adapt well to varying climates, displaying decent drought tolerance once established. Use it for mass plantings, natural screens, or a bright backdrop in a mixed border.
Paraplu® Pure White Rose of Sharon Care
Plant this shrub in moderately fertile, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. It performs at its best in full sun, although it tolerates partial shade with a minor impact on flower production. Water deeply when the top inch of soil begins to dry, particularly during its first growing season, and feed once in spring with a balanced fertilizer. Consistent sunlight, proper watering, and a nutrient-rich soil environment encourage strong growth and plentiful blooms.
Prune in late winter or early spring to remove any weak or crossed branches, focusing on shaping the plant rather than an aggressive cutback. In colder regions, mulching the root area helps moderate soil temperatures, and minimal watering is needed during winter dormancy. Container-grown shrubs benefit from an annual top-dressing of fresh soil and reliable drainage. We’ve noted that occasional trimming during summer helps maintain the shrub’s desired size, especially for those aiming for a more formal look.
Paraplu® Pure White Rose of Sharon Spacing
Allow at least five to six feet between shrubs when planting in a hedge or grouped arrangement, which allows each shrub to develop a full form. A new shrub does well in a container that’s at least 16 inches wide to accommodate root development. Larger pots can be used if you plan to let the plant mature in a container over multiple seasons.
