Echeverias are low-maintenance succulents that need little attention and as much light as you can give them. The broad, thick leaves of Perle von Nurnberg are recognizable by the dusty gray coloring that turns shades of pink when grown in bright light. Echeveria grows well outdoors during the summer when nighttime temperatures are above 50 degrees F. The brighter light outside will encourage Echeveria to form pups or baby plants.

Best Locations For Growing Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg

Echeveria is native to the deserts of Mexico and Central and South America and thrives in dry and bright locations. Any sunny window sill is the perfect spot for an Echeveria. High humidity is not beneficial and will encourage the leaves and stems to rot. Echeveria Perle von Nurnberg is not a toxic plant to children or pets.

Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg Sunlight Requirements

Echeveria needs as much sun as possible when growing indoors. At least 4 hours will help the plant stay colorful and compact. Rotating the pot may be needed if the plant begins to grow toward the window or elongate its base stem. Echeveria is easy to grow outdoors year-round in USDA zones 9-11 or just in the summer for the other zones. Make sure to gradually harden off and introduce Echeveria to direct sunlight when moving outdoors. Move the plant from full shade to a brighter spot for a week. The full sun right away will bleach or burn the leaves and damage Echeveria.

Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg Care

Echeveria needs to be planted in free-draining soil that does not hold moisture. Indoor potting soil made for cactus and succulent plants is ideal. Homemade cactus mix is easy to make and have on hand: use one part indoor soilless potting soil, one part perlite, and one part sharp sand. Propagation of Echeveria is easy, even for houseplant beginners. Propagation methods include leaf cuttings, separation of new plantlets, or repotting the top rosette.

Watering Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg

Succulents need to have a period of dryness in between watering sessions. The leaves store moisture, and if the plant is watered too often or left to sit in a saucer of water, the leaves will rot. Echeveria in a small pot can be dunked in a sink of room temperature water once a week. If the plant is too big for dunking, water it sparingly once a week until water runs from the drainage holes. Make sure to discard any standing water from the saucer within 10-15 minutes. Echeveria that has been dried out for too long will start to have shriveled and brown leaves. Pick off the damaged leaves before watering to prevent them from rotting.

Feeding Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg

Succulents do not need fertilizing regularly but may be encouraged to bloom during the summer months if fed once or twice during active growth. Use a liquid fertilizer formulated for succulents or a balanced 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer diluted to one-quarter of the manufacturer's recommended dosage. Apply in the spring and again six weeks later instead of watering.
