The Pink and Sweet Swamp Azalea does not have the most pleasant name, but make no mistake that its flowers are showy with a sweet fragrance. The Azalea viscosum boasts star-shaped flowers in pale pink that bloom in clusters starting in late June. The shiny, dark green, elliptic leaves give the plant a bushy look. The foliage turns brilliant shades of red and orange in the fall for continued visual interest.
This Azalea is a large shrub that can create a lovely flowering hedge or divide a space. Plant the Pink and Sweet Swamp Azalea in beds or borders. The lovely blooms attract pollinators. Pink and Sweet is native to the U.S., so once it acclimates, it will thrive with minimal care. This plant is a deciduous shrub that grows as a perennial in zones 4 through 8.
Pink and Sweet Swamp Azalea Care
A spot that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight is necessary for this Azalea to look its best. This shrub has average water needs. The soil should be acidic, moist, and well drained. Feed this shrub using a fertilizer formulated for acid lovers in the spring before new growth appears.
Shape the plant as needed after the flowers fade. Azalea plants set buds for the following year in the late summer, so trim the plant before buds appear.
