The unusual leaf shape and coloring of the Pink Spotted Begonia (Begonia amphioxus) makes it an eye-catching and irresistible houseplant that you will not want to pass up. The lime-green leaves are flecked with cherry-red polka dots and ruffled edges, resembling the wings of an exotic butterfly more than the leaves of a houseplant. Provided a bright location, regular watering, and a bit of humidity, this Begonia wows plant newbies and enthusiasts alike.

Best Locations For Growing Pink Spotted Begonia

Pink Spotted Begonia is not a plant that you will want to hide. Place this striking plant in the bright window of a bedroom or living room, or place among other houseplants to add color and texture. Begonias are toxic plants and should be placed out of reach of children and pets.

Pink Spotted Begonia Sunlight Requirements

Begonias do best when kept in bright, indirect light. Place Pink Spotted Begonia in front of an east- or north-facing window, or slightly away from a west- or south-facing window, protected from harmful direct sun rays. When Begonias are too far from a light source, they will stretch and become leggy, taking away from their full appearance. In too much light, the delicate leaves can become sunburned, losing their color and eventually drying up.

Pink Spotted Begonia Care

Begonias are plants that prefer higher humidity. For best results, place Pink Spotted Begonia on a pebble tray or near a humidifier. Avoid directly misting the leaves of Begonias, however, as they are prone to powdery mildew and other foliar infections. Begonias prefer to be root-bound and should only need to be repotted every couple of years when they run out of room in their pots.

Watering Pink Spotted Begonia

Water Pink Spotted Begonia once the top few inches have dried out, adding water until it flows out the bottom of the pot. Be sure to plant Begonias in peaty, well-draining soils and in a pot with drainage holes to avoid overwatering and root rot. Like many other plants, Begonias will wilt when they are both over- and underwatered. Always feel the soil before watering and avoid wetting the leaves.

Feeding Pink Spotted Begonias

Add a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer to Pink Spotted Begonias once a month through the growing season, in the spring and summer. Always follow directions when diluting fertilizer to avoid overfeeding, which can result in burned leaves and stunted growth. Begonias will not need fertilizer in the winter as they are not actively growing.
