Quick Fire Fab® is the earliest panicle-type Hydrangea to bloom in the summer. Much like its predecessor Quick Fire, the blousy flower heads bloom all summer long to provide great textural interest and height for any garden bed or container planting. The color-changing flowers start out creamy vanilla and age to a yummy strawberry pink and last throughout the fall. This grafted tree also has stout branches that do not need support when in full bloom while helping to keep the tree a compact 6-8 feet tall when fully grown.
Hydrangea paniculata ‘Quick Fire Fab’ is amazingly low maintenance and hardy enough to be grown in USDA zones 3-8. Quick Fire Fab is not affected by the pH level of the soil. The flowers remain dependable white and deep pink year after year. Grow this gorgeous grafted tree in a container for instant drama on a partly shaded deck or patio. It also makes a great focal point for smaller garden beds.
Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea Tree Care
This hydrangeas can tolerate a wide range of light conditions in the garden. In areas with hot summers, plant it in partial sun or shade, with protection from intense afternoon sun. Rich soil that is well draining and a neutral pH is ideal, although slightly acidic or alkaline soil is acceptable for paniculata types. Annual fertilizing with a slow-release, balanced formula will support sturdy growth and profuse blooming. Keep hydrangeas well watered for the best flower production. Watering with drip irrigation or soaker hoses will keep the foliage and trunk of the standard tree dry and less susceptible to pests and disease.
Deadheading is seldom required for Quick Fire Fab. The flowers will age on the tree and hold their shape throughout the fall. The flowers also make wonderfully long-lasting cut flowers that are easy to dry. Pruning is best done in the early spring just as the new growth is emerging. Remove all branches that have been damaged from the winter to keep the canopy a rounded and open shape.
Potted hydrangea tree will require extra care to survive the winter. Move the pot to a more sheltered location that is out of the path of prevailing storms, downspouts, and roof lines, which could wash out and flood a pot.
Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea Tree Spacing
Tree Hydrangeas typically have 3 or more feet of open area around the trunk. This makes them very easy to fit into existing garden plantings or add to a container planting scheme. The root system will grow to roughly the diameter of the upper canopy. Space these hydrangea trees 5-6 feet apart, from one center to the next, to allow each plant to reach its mature spread. To grow Quick Fire Fab tree in a pot, select a container that has a wide base for stability and at least an 18-inch diameter.
