Rainbow Rhythm® Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Daylily (Hemerocallis hybrid) earns its lofty, but playful name. It displays soft, coral petals with a deep cranberry eye and edging that opens repeatedly from midsummer to late summer. We have grown and admired its large blooms that measure around six inches across, drawing steady interest in flower borders and containers. It often reaches 20 to 24 inches in height, delivering abundant color without overwhelming nearby plants. Many gardeners value it for its reliable performance and subtle pastel palette.

This herbaceous perennial is known for its moderate fragrance and clumping growth habit that sends up new flower stalks throughout its bloom season. It stands up to common garden pests, and deer often ignore its foliage. This North American-bred variety suits edges, mixed perennial beds, and mass plantings. Minimal care requirements and long-lasting flowers make it a practical choice for gardeners seeking a showy focal point or a soft accent.

Rainbow Rhythm® Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Daylily Care

Plant it in full sun or partial shade, with well-drained soil that has been amended with compost. Water regularly during the first growing season to help roots establish, then provide moderate moisture once it’s settled. A balanced fertilizer applied in spring promotes strong flower production, and a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH is best. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and reduces weeds.

Deadhead spent flowers daily to keep the plants tidy, and remove any withered foliage as the season progresses. In colder regions, leave foliage intact through fall and trim it back in late winter to protect the crown. Container-grown plants may need more frequent watering, and they can be moved to a sheltered spot if severe freezes threaten.

Rainbow Rhythm® Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Daylily Spacing

Place plants about 18 to 24 inches apart in rows or large groupings. A slightly tighter spacing of around 12 to 18 inches produces denser coverage in mass plantings but may require additional thinning of clumps over time. For containers, choose a pot at least 12 inches wide and 10 inches deep. Adequate space supports healthy roots and fuller clumps of fresh growth each season.
