The Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron is a charming plant with intriguing coloring that changes with age. Lance-shaped foliage is light green, and first emerges with creamy white variegation that later turns shades of bold orange or red. Mature leaves have a gentle ripple and sometimes develop irregular edges.

This rare houseplant is a hybrid between Philodendron Tortum and Philodendron Wendlandii. Also known as Henderson’s Pride, the Variegated Ring of Fire is a self-heading Philodendron with an upright growth habit.

Best Locations For Growing Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron

The Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron is a showy plant that makes a charming addition to any room. Increased sunlight and humidity are preferred and help the plant thrive, although you can use grow lights and a pebble tray to assist. Philodendrons are toxic to people and animals, including cats and dogs. While it can be enticing to bring this rare Philodendron home, be aware of the safety issues if you have young kids or pets.

Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron Sunlight Requirements

The Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron requires bright, indirect light. Increased sunlight maintains the bright variegation and helps the plant push out new leaves. Keep this leafy plant away from the damaging rays of direct light. Close to an east- or west-facing window or set back from a southern window will provide enough light.

Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron Care

Trim the plant to remove dead leaves, directing energy into new growth. This Philodendron grows slowly, so plan to repot only every few years. Prioritize repotting if the plant is rootbound or has depleted the soil. Use a rich, moist, slightly acidic potting soil that promotes drainage. This is a climbing Philodendron, so give it a trellis and watch it do its thing.

Watering Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron

Philodendrons have medium water needs. Water the Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron every 7 to 10 days or when the top few inches of potting soil are dry. Growth slows in the fall and winter, and watering can be reduced to every 12 to 15 days. Drench the soil when watering and remove runoff from the tray or cover pot.

Increased humidity keeps the Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron looking lovely. Above-average humidity is preferred, but the plant can adapt to average humidity. If the air is too dry, brown patches may form on the edges of the leaves.

Feeding Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron

The Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron is a slow-growing plant and benefits from light fertilizing during the growing season. Fertilize this Philodendron using a balanced fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 10-10-10 or 20-20-20. A water-soluble formula is easy to apply and safe for the plant. Feed the Ring of Fire Variegated Philodendron every four weeks while it grows actively in spring and summer.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
