Astilbes add bright summer color to landscapes, and Rise and Shine Astilbe is one of the brightest. Its hot pink flower plumes appear above delicate light green foliage. Bees love the flowers and so will passers-by. Add Rise and Shine to a favorite garden container as the focus, thriller plant. At a height of about 2 feet and spread of 18 inches, it's also a perfect low border plant for the front of a garden bed or sidewalk edge.
You will enjoy Rise and Shine Astilbe plenty in the garden, but you can cut the flowers for indoor arrangements, too. Or wait until the plumes dry for pretty height in flower arrangements. The lacy-looking flower stems are much sturdier than they appear, and so are the long-lasting plants. Astilbes look best—and the most dramatic—when you plan several together for a mass of hot pink all summer. The versatile little plant can grow well in sun or shade in zones 4 through 9.
Rise and Shine Astilbe Care
Plant Rise and Shine Astilbe in rich, fertile soil for best results. The plant performs best with consistent watering and can die if the soil dries out for too long. Leave fading flower stems and old foliage on the plant for extra winter protection and wait to prune in early spring. You can apply a balanced fertilizer in spring before flowering begins. If the plant's crown rises above soil level, gently push it back down and add an organic compost or mulch around the plant.
Rise and Shine Astilbe Spacing
For mass plantings and borders, place Rise and Shine Astilbe plants about 12 to 18 inches apart from one plant's center to another.
