The Ruby Supreme Guava Tree can produce generous ruby-pink-fleshed fruit, even when it is still young. It stays a manageable 10–20 ft. tall and 10–15 ft. wide in the ground. Glossy evergreen leaves and fragrant white flowers (often around 1–2 inches) make it look good even when it’s between harvest cycles. The ripened yellow-skinned fruit has sweet, aromatic pulp that’s great fresh, blended, or preserved. Psidium guajava ‘Ruby Supreme’ is self-pollinating so you can get fruit with a single plant. We tend to steer home growers toward Ruby Supreme because it’s productive without needing a second variety, and it responds well when you prune it down to patio size.

Ruby Supreme Guava Tree Care

Plant outdoors in spring once nights reliably stay above 50–55°F in zones 9–11, or keep it in a container where you can overwinter it above 60°F indoors. Give it full sun to part sun (6–8+ hours) and well-drained soil with a pH around 5.0–7.0. If your site holds water, mound the planting area or amend with perlite and coarse organic material to speed drainage. Prune after harvest or whenever growth gets leggy, removing crossing branches and low shoots near the base, since guavas fruit on new growth and shaping doesn’t reduce future set.

Growing Ruby Supreme Guava Tree

Ruby Supreme often fruits in about 1–3 years depending on plant size, heat, and sun. In warm climates it can cycle flowers and fruit repeatedly, although many home growers see the heaviest harvests June through August. Start growing indoors in a bright, warm spot if you’re outside its growing range, and move it outside for summer once temperatures warm.

Growing Ruby Supreme Guava Tree in Containers

Use a container only slightly larger than the current pot (about 2–3 inches wider) with plenty of drainage holes, since guavas dislike staying wet around the roots. Repotting is often needed yearly while it’s young, then every 2–3 years once it reaches the size you want. In a container it makes a natural thriller and pairs well with rosemary, oregano, and marigold in the same sun-soaked, fast-draining setup.

Watering Ruby Supreme Guava Tree

Water deeply, then wait until the top 2–3 inches of soil dries before watering again, increasing frequency during flowering and fruit fill. If leaves droop and don’t perk up by evening, a deeper soak is likely needed. Conversely, consistently soggy soil is a warning sign for root trouble.

Feeding Ruby Supreme Guava Tree

Fertilize every 1–2 months during the growing season while the tree is young. Once established, shift to 3–4 feedings per year, using a balanced blend like 6-6-6, 8-8-8, or similar fruit-tree fertilizer. Keep fertilizer at least 6 inches away from the trunk to avoid stem rot, and don’t overdo it in containers since salts build up in pots.
