Silver Amydrium is an uncommon aroid known for its dramatic yet delicate foliage fenestrations. As the leaves mature, they develop a lovely glaucous silver hue, making this plant stand out in any tropical collection. Native to Southeast Asia, Amydrium medium is a hemi-epiphytic plant that grows on the bark of other plants while its sizable aerial roots extend into the soil for added stability. This unique plant is often confused with Monstera varieties and is commonly referred to as Spiderman Monstera.

Best Locations For Growing Silver Amydrium

Amydrium thrives when trained to grow up a trellis or moss-covered pole and can adapt to nearly any room in the house. This climbing aroid can also trail and hang from the top of a shelf or bookcase. While pruning can help maintain a bushy appearance, it may prevent the leaves from maturing enough to showcase their brilliant fenestrations and metallic silver coloring. It is important to note that all varieties of Amydrium are considered toxic to pets and small children.

Silver Amydrium Sunlight Requirements

Position your Silver Amydrium in an east or north-facing window where it receives bright, indirect light. Intense direct sunlight, such as that from a south-facing window, can fade the dramatic coloration of the foliage and lead to scorch marks over time. Plants grown in very low light conditions may become leggy, exhibiting fewer leaves along the main stems.

Silver Amydrium Care

A well-draining and chunky potting medium is ideal for hemi-epiphytic plants like Amydrium. Combine perlite and orchid bark with a peat-free indoor potting mix in a 1:1:1 ratio. The aerial roots can either grow outside the container or be gently tucked back into the soil to further anchor the plant. The stunning fenestrations and coloration develop as the foliage matures; growing the plants vertically, as they would in their native habitat, encourages larger leaves.

Watering Silver Amydrium

Allow the potting medium to dry slightly between waterings. During spring and summer, when the plants experience the most growth, check for watering once or even twice a week, depending on your home's humidity levels. In winter, growth slows, so reduce watering to once every 10-14 days, or even less frequently in lower light conditions. Average indoor humidity levels are acceptable for Amydrium, but occasional misting with distilled water can be beneficial for the leaves.

Feeding Silver Amydrium

A balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer promotes healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Apply a diluted dose once a month during the spring and summer months. Fertilizing is not recommended during the fall and winter.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
