Snowstorm Blue Bacopa blankets medium bright green foliage with dainty blue/violet flowers that have an orange yellow center that appears to glow. Such a beautiful color combination, combined with a prolific long continuous blooming annual for most regions.
Native to Africa, Australia, East India, Europe and North and South America in Zones 9a through 11b, bacopa is a creeping ground cover that blooms all season long. In Zones 3-7, plant out after the danger of the last frost. This is an easy care annual that will give you much more than you put into it.
Snowstorm Blue Bacopa Care
Although bacopa thrives in part sun to full sun, it requires moderate moist soil. It is heat tolerant but can be burned by intense direct prolonged exposure to the sun in hot climates. It does not wilt when stressed by drought, instead it will drop its buds and flowers and take a couple weeks before it regains its vigor. Plant it with other annuals that do wilt as a good indicator when it needs moisture. Fertilize regularly if in containers and once a season if planted in your landscape. It prefers a soil pH of 5.5 to 5.8, so is a great companion to many other full sun to light shade annuals.
Deadheading is not required as it will bloom all season long. However, when it is first established it will respond to deadheading with increased blooming. It is well branched already, and is self cleaning. From June to October in most regions, you will have a long continuous blooming season.
Snowstorm Blue Bacopa Spacing
Air circulation is important for bacopa as it is susceptible to powdery mildew. Give plants 8 to 12 inches of space when planting out. It will grow to about 10 inches tall and spread to 24 inches wide, cascading beautifully out of containers and hanging baskets or down a rock wall. It also is a great ground cover around taller plants in your landscape.
