Mature Spread
Solera™ Watermelon Geranium (Pelargonium interspecific 'TOSTE0190') ushers in fuchsia-pink blooms that brighten garden beds and containers from late spring through the end of summer. It reaches about 12 to 18 inches in height, creating a neat mound of green foliage that accentuates each flower cluster. This hybrid brings dependable color without demanding intensive upkeep. We have observed its lengthy flowering season consistently pleasing gardeners seeking continuous impact.
Though bred from geranium lines with African ancestry, it adapts readily to a variety of conditions once settled. We note that deer generally bypass these leaves, and moderate drought tolerance emerges after the roots establish. Incorporate it into mass displays, use it as a border accent, or feature it in container arrangements for quick splashes of color. The compact size and tidy shape make it an appealing choice for smaller landscapes or patios.
Solera™ Watermelon Geranium Care
Select a location in full sun or partial shade, and provide soil that drains effectively. Water more frequently during the first few weeks of growth, then reduce the schedule as the plant matures; occasional deep watering in hot weather encourages optimum health. Fertilize every couple of weeks using a balanced, water-soluble blend. A slightly acidic to neutral pH typically supports strong flowering.
Remove faded flower heads to prolong the color display, and trim any overly long stems if you want to maintain a uniform form. Heavy pruning is rarely required, though removing damaged or yellowing foliage keeps the plant looking fresh. In cooler areas, bring containerized specimens indoors when frosts threaten, reducing watering as they enter a resting phase. Regular checks for pests can prevent minor issues from turning into larger problems.
Solera™ Watermelon Geranium Spacing
When planting in rows or large groupings, leave around 12 to 15 inches between plants for sufficient airflow. A lone specimen in a border benefits from a similar amount of open space on each side. If you plan to grow it in a container, start with a pot at least 10 inches wide to accommodate root development, and consider moving to a larger size if you combine it with companion plants or if the root system expands significantly.
