Sombrero® Fuchsia Fandango Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'Balsomfand') shines in the garden with bold pink blooms from early summer through late season. Its sturdy stems reach around 18 to 24 inches, and each flower head forms a striking dome-shaped cone. The intense color and well-branched habit make it stand out in beds or patio containers. It provides long-lasting interest and draws pollinators with minimal effort.
Native to North America, this coneflower handles hot, sunny conditions and typically resists deer. Disease issues remain rare, and once established, it tolerates moderate dry spells. Its upright growth suits mass plantings, pollinator gardens, or borders where the bright color can be enjoyed. It also offers eye-catching texture in fresh or dried flower arrangements.
Sombrero® Fuchsia Fandango Coneflower Care
Site it in full sun with well-draining soil. Keep new plants evenly moist, then reduce watering as they mature, although a regular drink during hot spells encourages continued blooms. Fertilize lightly in spring with a balanced product, and maintain a soil pH of about 6.0 to 7.0. Occasional compost or organic matter around the root zone boosts overall performance.
Deadheading spent flowers extends the color period, and light pinching early in the season can promote branching. Thin out congested stems in midsummer if needed, and shear lightly after the main flush to keep a neat shape. Trim away old growth in late fall or leave the seedheads for winter interest and wildlife. If grown in containers, protect the roots from freezing temps by moving pots to a sheltered location or adding mulch around the base.
Sombrero® Fuchsia Fandango Coneflower Spacing
Allow 18 to 24 inches between plants for rows or groupings, giving each coneflower enough room to spread. A single specimen in a mixed border needs around 18 inches on all sides. Select a container at least 12 inches in diameter for a new coneflower, and go bigger if combining it with companion plants or planning for multiple seasons.
