Sombrero Poco™ Yellow Coneflower (Echinacea x hybrid 'Balsompocel') adds a burst of sunny color from early summer to fall. Its tidy, compact habit, reaching about 14 to 16 inches tall, fits well in smaller gardens or decorative pots. The cheerful flowers form prominent cones that attract a variety of pollinators. This variety stands apart with a strong bloom cycle on robust stems.

Known for its adaptability, this coneflower traces its heritage to North American prairies. Diseases rarely trouble it, deer often pass it by, and once established, it tolerates moderate dry spells. Its dependable nature suits mass plantings, pollinator borders, and container arrangements. It also complements rock gardens or mixed perennial beds with little extra work.

Sombrero Poco™ Yellow Coneflower Care

Place it in full sun with well-draining soil, and water regularly during the first season. Use a balanced fertilizer in spring to promote new growth, and maintain a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Reduce watering once roots are established, though occasional deep watering supports better performance during hot spells. Adding organic matter or compost boosts the soil’s health.

Deadheading spent flowers encourages extra color late into the season, and pinching early buds can spur branching. Give the plant a light shear after its main flush to maintain a tidy shape. In colder regions, consider leaving seedheads for winter interest or remove them if a cleaner look is preferred. Container-grown specimens benefit from mulching or moving to a sheltered spot when temperatures drop below freezing.

Sombrero Poco™ Yellow Coneflower Spacing

Space plants 14 to 18 inches apart when creating rows or clusters to ensure adequate airflow. A single specimen in a border needs around 14 inches on all sides to develop properly. A pot at least 10 inches wide suits a new coneflower, and you can size up as the plant matures or if you wish to combine it with companion plants.
