This evergreen beauty, with origins in Asia and North America is hardy in zones 7A-9B. Stellar Ruby Magnolia is a versatile show-off, lovely in a border, as an accent, as a mass-planting or privacy hedge, or in a large container. A good tree for gardens that may host the occasional deer, as Show Off is deer and pest resistant. Heat tolerant and easy care make this long blooming Magnolia a great pick for the garden.
Stellar Ruby Magnolia Care
Plant Stellar Ruby in an area that receives at full to part sun, a minimum 4-6 hours a day. Water well after planting and until established, and then as needed. Fertilize once a year in the spring. Use a slow release tree and shrub fertilizer in early spring. It has good salt tolerance, and is great for coastal areas.
After blooming is the best time to prune Magnolia. Remove old wood or diseased stems at this time. After the bloom period is also a good time to do any shape pruning or hedge trimming.
Stellar Ruby Magnolia Spacing
Stellar Ruby Magnolia reaches 10-15 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, be sure to allow it the proper space it needs to stand out in your garden. If you are using this Magnolia as a hedge, plant at 5-6 feet apart for a full hedge.
