Growing Zones
Summer Jazz Fire Trumpet Vine (Campsis x tagliabuana ‘Summer Jazz® Fire’) flaunts clusters of fiery red-orange, trumpet-shaped flowers from late spring into fall, transforming fences and trellises into show-stopping displays. Unlike typical trumpet creeper, this compact vine grows to only about 6 feet tall, making it perfect for smaller spaces, containers, or a dramatic accent on patios. Its rich green foliage contrasts beautifully with the bright blooms and adds lush coverage without overwhelming the area. Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies flock to the nectar-rich flowers, bringing life and motion to your outdoor space. With a more restrained growth habit than standard varieties, this award-winning selection is ideal for adding privacy or a focal point, while staying manageable and refined.
As an American native hybrid, Summer Jazz Fire Trumpet Vine offers impressive cold hardiness and tolerance for a variety of soils. This low-maintenance climber resists deer browsing and can handle brief dry spells once established. Plant it near a trellis or pergola where it will self-cling and thrive in full sun, although partial shade is acceptable if it still receives a few hours of strong light. Use it to soften the look of a fence, create a living screen, or add bold color to containers near your entryway. Its upright form and moderate size make it easy to incorporate into cottage gardens, modern landscapes, or anywhere showy blossoms are desired.
Summer Jazz Fire Trumpet Vine Care
Place this vine in full sun or at least six hours of bright light daily for best flowering. Provide well-drained, moderately fertile soil and water regularly until the plant is established; it tolerates short dry spells but will bloom more heavily with consistent moisture. An all-purpose fertilizer in spring can enhance growth and bud production, though over-fertilizing may reduce flowering. If growing in a container, use a sturdy support like a small trellis or obelisk and ensure the pot drains freely. In colder zones, mulch the root area for winter insulation.
Pruning is generally minimal; remove any suckers or stray growth to maintain a neat form. Trim back faded flowers or overly long shoots if they appear, though heavy pruning is seldom required. In colder climates, consider moving container-grown plants to a sheltered spot for winter or wrapping the base if temperatures plunge well below the vine’s hardiness. Occasionally check for root-bound conditions if growing in containers; repotting may be needed for vigorous plants.
Summer Jazz Fire Trumpet Vine Spacing
To create a wide screen, place Summer Jazz Fire Trumpet Vines 3 to 4 feet apart, granting them enough room to climb and fill in without tangling. If using as a standalone feature, space it at least 3 feet away from competing shrubs or perennials. When selecting a container, opt for one 14 to 16 inches in diameter to offer ample room for root expansion and a stable base for its climbing habit.
