These bells don’t stop ringing until the frost lady sings. For blooms that just won’t quit, look to this Calibrachoa, which keeps pumping out mini-petunia-shaped blossoms into fall. Tolerant of exposures from sun to part sun, and even high temperatures, this is one hardworking beauty. The best part? Although there may well be a million bells, you don’t have to deadhead them.
A mounded trailer that only gets six to 12 inches high and trails to 18 inches, it’s an exceptional choice for hanging baskets, window boxes, or anywhere you’d like to pour a continuous cascade of rich, sunny coral. Raised beds or garden beds with excellent drainage are also great places to use Coralina. Punctuated with a lemon-yellow eye, Coralina’s flowers are a very easy color to use, teaming orange and yellow as a helpful bridge in your design creations. Those tubular-shaped flowers are also hummingbird magnets, in a color that they see readily, so look forward to watching the show as they feast on the nectar.
Superbells® Coralina Calibrachoa Care
Calibrachoa are easy-going creatures that prefer sun to part sun, low- to average moisture, good drainage, and a moderate pH. Water only when dry to avoid root rot. If the plant is wilting while the soil is damp, let the plant fully dry out. Fertilizer while planting in the ground, and repeated with regular applications in containers will keep those flowers coming. Encourage compact, full growth mid-season with a light trim as needed.
If foliage is yellowing despite regular fertilizer, the pH may have gone too low or too high. Applying chelated iron, either in a foliar spray or water-soluble fertilizer, will return the leaves to green.
Superbells® Coralina Calibrachoa Spacing
In containers or in-ground, place eight to 12 inches apart. Coralina can grow up to 24 inches wide. For the fullest look in hanging baskets, you can try six inches apart, since much of the growth will be trailing.
