Are you looking to add something new to your hanging baskets and planters this summer? Superbells® Double Yellow Calibrachoa trails and fills containers beautifully while pushing out fully double flowers in the brightest sunny yellow. This plant lives to flower nonstop from late spring through to the first frost of fall. Double Yellow Calibrachoa will not look tired or leggy during the hottest days of summer.
Although Calibrachoa is commonly grown as an annual, it is technically a short-lived perennial in USDA growing zones 9-11. Calibrachoa's mounding and trailing habit will fill in and wind around any of the hot season annuals you care to mix with this stunning standout. A hanging basket planted with Double Yellow Calibrachoa will look dramatic and modern when added to your outdoor living space. More traditional mixed plantings with a large flowering petunia and Diamond Frost Euphorbia will continue to grow and change all summer. Calibrachoa can also be effectively grown in a garden bed as a groundcover or along a wall where it can grow and drape over the side.
Superbells® Double Yellow Calibrachoa Care
Plant this Calibrachoa in containers and baskets that have excellent drainage. Warm-season annuals can be easily overwatered and prefer to dry out slightly between waterings. Add an all-purpose potting mix that has plenty of perlite. Place the basket or pot where it will receive at least 6 hours of direct sun for the best flowering and color. Pinch out the growing tips directly after planting. This will encourage more branching of stems and a more dense plant. Deadheading is not necessary for Calibrachoa, although it may benefit from a hard cutting back if growth gets too leggy or out of scale with its container. Cutting back in July will allow plenty of time for the plant to produce another flush of blooms for the end of summer. Annual plant containers will greatly benefit from fertilizing with a diluted liquid feed every two weeks from April to September. Use a formulation such as Alaska MorBloom that has a higher ratio of phosphorous and potassium for heavy blooming and rooting.
Calibrachoa can be grown indoors over winter if you do not garden in zones 9-11. This tender perennial will require very high light levels and often, specialized grow lights. Wait to fertilize until spring and reduce watering to once every 7-10 days depending on the humidity levels indoors.
Superbells® Double Yellow Calibrachoa Spacing
The overall size for Calibrachoa is 12 inches high with a spread of 2 feet. Although relatively large, it does well when planted very close to other shallow-rooted plants. Allow three plants per 10-inch hanging basket or container. In the ground, space Calibrachoa 18 inches apart on the center of each plant to provide a quick, dense groundcover.
