What does this mean?
This shows how the plant is typically used in a container combo — Thriller (tall focal point), Filler (mid-height mass), or Spiller (trailing over the edge).
Tip: match plant habit to the role for the best designs.
Double blooms plus a color change is a rare combo, and Superbells Magic® Double Grapefruit Calibrachoa pulls it off all season. Flowers open lemony yellow, then blush pink as sunlight ramps up, so the plant looks like a mixed planting even when it’s a single variety. Compared to many calibrachoas with simple, one-note color, this one gives a fuller, rose-like look thanks to the double petals. It stays about 6–12 inches tall and spreads 12–24 inches wide, with a mounding-trailing habit made for baskets and boxes.
Calibrachoa hybrid 'WNCALSBDBLGF26' is self-cleaning, so blooms keep coming from planting to hard frost without deadheading. The plant also tolerates heat better than many pastel bloomers, which helps the color stay fresh in midsummer. It earned a 2025 Industry Open House Award (UGA) and was named a top performer at several university trials, including the University of Minnesota (Grand Rapids), Penn State, and Ohio State Extension (Springfield). Use it as a spiller in combinations or let it mound and tumble on its own for a softer, layered look.
Superbells Magic® Double Grapefruit Calibrachoa Care
Give this calibrachoa full sun to part sun for best bloom count and the strongest yellow-to-pink shift. Plant in a loose, fast-draining mix. Calibrachoa prefers a slightly acidic to neutral range (about pH 5.5–6.8), and poor pH can show up as yellowing leaves. Water deeply, then pause until the surface feels dry and the pot feels lighter before watering again. Feed regularly during the growing season with a water-soluble fertilizer, or combine a slow-release fertilizer at planting with occasional liquid feeds to keep it flowering strongly.
No deadheading needed, but a light haircut helps when stems start to stretch. In late July or early August, trim back by about one-third to refresh branching and bring on a new wave of blooms. If foliage pales despite feeding, a dose of chelated iron can help when pH has drifted. Remove any stray long stems anytime to keep the basket balanced.
Superbells Magic® Double Grapefruit Calibrachoa Spacing
Space plants 8–12 inches apart in raised beds or very well-drained garden soil, and expect them to knit together quickly. For containers, start one plant in a 10–12 inch pot, or use three in a 16–18 inch basket for a full cascade. We’d plant it where you’ll see it daily, like a front-porch hanger or a kitchen window box.
In container planting, pair Superbells Magic® Double Grapefruit with bacopa for soft spill, nemesia for extra color echoes, or sweet potato vines for bold foliage contrast. For landscape design in a raised bed, tuck it along the front with alyssum and lobelia to keep the edge blooming from spring through frost.
