SuperCal Premium Caramel Yellow Petchoa (Petunia × Calibrachoa ‘SAKPXC024’) bursts into spring with caramel-tinted yellow trumpets, each bloom washing the plant in color from planting time until hard frost. The flowers are large for a petchoa, open freely in heat or cool spells, and never leave sticky petals behind, so containers stay tidy. A naturally mounded form reaches about twenty inches high and slightly wider, filling baskets and beds without gaps while trailing tips soften the edge of any pot. Peak display stretches through summer and well into autumn, giving gardeners a long, reliable season of show.
Heat tolerance and high powdery-mildew resistance make this hybrid a dependable choice in humid climates; deer rarely nibble the foliage, yet hummingbirds dart to the nectar-rich throats. Bred in Japan and hardy only in zones 9–11, it performs as an annual elsewhere but grows fast enough to anchor mass plantings, weave through sunny borders, or spill from window boxes. Use it as the solo star of a patio pot, pair it with upright grasses for contrast, or mix it among cool-toned calibrachoas to brighten a mixed basket. The plant’s self-cleaning trait eliminates deadheading and keeps color fresh after heavy rain.
Premium Caramel Yellow Petchoa Care
Set transplants in full sun or morning sun plus afternoon shade, using a light, well-drained potting mix or garden soil amended with compost; aim for a pH between 5.5 and 6.2 for best nutrient uptake. Keep moisture evenly moderate—water when the top inch of soil dries—and feed monthly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to support constant flowering. Deadheading is unnecessary, yet a mid-summer shear by one-third encourages new shoots and a second wave of color. Good air circulation helps prevent botrytis; space pots so leaves dry quickly after watering.
Gardeners in cold regions can treat the plant as a single-season annual, or can bring a container into a bright south-facing room before first frost and trim it back; with steady light and 60 °F temperatures it will bloom lightly indoors and restart vigorously outdoors next spring. In frost-free climates, plants overwinter outdoors and serve as short-lived perennials for two to three years before replacement.
Premium Caramel Yellow Petchoa Spacing
Space individual plants 14 to 16 inches apart in garden beds, or line a 12-inch hanging basket with three evenly placed transplants for a full dome of bloom. A single plant will mound and spill nicely in an 8-inch pot, while larger patio tubs of 14 inches or more accommodate four plants without crowding. Allow at least 18 inches of clearance around mixed-border specimens so neighboring perennials do not shade the crown.
