Here is the warm season annual you will find that works in any full sun to light shade area in your landscape, garden bed or container garden. Its neutral white color will allow you to pair it with any other color of flower or foliage and it will look wonderful. Its medium to large flower size will impress you and provide a contrast to some of the other daintier annuals it can companion with. You will find yourself reaching for this petunia hybrid year after year for your garden.

Native to South America, petunias are a warm season perennial in Zones 10a to 11b. They are highly frost intolerant, so are grown as an annual in Zones 3-9. An improved variety over native petunias, Supertunia White will not reseed and take over your garden space. Light shade is tolerated but flowering could be less prolific. With a proper water and feeding schedule, you will have a full season of color spring to fall.

Supertunia® White Petunia Care

Because they produce so many blooms, Supertunias are heavy feeders. Use a controlled release fertilizer when first planting them, then a water soluble fertilizer once a month during vigorous growth for optimal plant appearance. Supertunias need full sun if possible as they need the energy this creates. They prefer a slightly acidic soil pH of 5.5 to 5.8. Keep soil moderately moist, not soggy to prevent leaf wilt and root rot. Aphids and thrips can be a problem so keep an eye out for them. Use of a mild dish detergent solution to remove any offending insects is all that is usually needed to eradicate them.

Deadheading is not required as this plant is self cleaning. Light pruning when first setting out will encourage branching and result in increased flowering although it is not necessary to get a profusion of blooms from this improved hybrid. Supertunias will not flush out of bloom during the hottest part of the year, in fact, they say ‘bring it on’ and keep producing blooms as long as you water and feed them regularly.

Supertunia® White Petunia Spacing

Spacing properly will provide the needed air circulation to reduce disease and insect infestation. Growing up to 12 inches tall and spreading out up to 24 inches wide, space Supertunias 12 to 24 inches apart between plants. Pair this low growing, mounding annual with the other 25 colors of Supertunias, or choose nemesia, superbena, calibrachoa, euphorbia, coleus, sutera and lobularia for an outstanding profusion of blooms and color all season long.
