Growing Zones
The aptly named Sweet Fragrance Rose really does smell delicious. As a hybrid tea rose, from late spring it produces ongoing clusters of apricot blooms that mature to a pink shade with age. The Sweet Fragrance Rose develops a classic hybrid tea form of erect, strong stems and green foliage. With great disease resistance, this rose is easy to care for and will be a joy to grow wherever it is planted.
The blooms of the Sweet Fragrance Rose are sweetly scented and should be enjoyed whether in the garden or when used as a cut flower for a vase. With a mature height of 2 to 4 feet, this rose is ideal for growing as a specimen or en masse in a border. This Sweet Fragrance Rose can also be grown on a patio or deck in a large container.
Sweet Fragrance Rose Care
As with all roses, the Sweet Fragrance Rose prefers to be grown in fertile and free-draining soil; if possible, enrich the soil with some well-rotted manure prior to planting. To encourage its apricot flowers to repeat bloom, it should be placed in a spot where it will receive as much sun as possible. Regular watering is necessary after planting and until it has become established. As a hungry plant, a specific rose fertilizer can be applied during the growing season to help prevent nutrient deficiencies and give it all it needs to thrive.
As the flowers fade, they should be deadheaded to encourage new buds to appear. Annual pruning should be performed in late winter or early spring when the plant is dormant. To prune this rose, remove any crossing, damaged or diseased branches and then shorten the remaining framework by up to a half, making a cut just above a bud. When pruning a rose, use sanitized and sharp tools to keep wounds small and disease-free.
Sweet Fragrance Rose Spacing
When mature, the Sweet Fragrance Rose can reach a height of 2-4 feet by 2-3 feet wide. If planting this stunning rose out in a group for maximum effect, it can be spaced at a distance of around 3 feet.
