- Ready to Harvest in 72 days!
- 34-48 Inches Tall
- 12-20 Inches Wide
- Plant in Full Sun
Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure is indeed a surprise for anyone wanting to grow their own tasty tomatoes. It blends some of the finest qualities of other varieties in a compact plant with a high yield of 8- to 9-ounce tomatoes perfect for slicing. What's more, the fruit is ready to harvest about 72 days after planting, a short time to harvest for a tomato large enough for slicing.
Garden Treasure is an indeterminate tomato, meaning it continues to grow and produce fruit as long as the weather permits. This gives you a slow, steady supply of fruit over summer and early fall. Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure blends the taste of an heirloom tomato with the disease resistance of a modern hybrid. The plant vines and produces all season but is compact enough to grow in a container.
Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure Tomato Plant Care
Plant your tomato after all danger of frost has passed. Tomatoes need full sun and consistent watering. Remove the lower leaves of the plant and bury it deeply in the soil. Although you are anxious for fruit, remove the first sets of flowers until the plant is about 18 inches tall. At the end of the season, as the weather cools, pinch off some of the top flowers on the plant to give much-needed energy to ripening fruit that already has formed.
Growing Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure Tomato Plants
Within just over 2 months, you should have ripe fruit from Garden Treasure to cut and enjoy. Keep the plant pruned enough to allow air to circulate inside and around. Make sure it continues to receive sun, but shade the tomato if possible when temperatures soar into the 90s. Add a tomato cage or other staking system as the plant begins to grow more vine-like.
Plant Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure in a large container, at least 14 inches in diameter at the top, and at least a foot deep so the roots have space in which to grow. Containers dry out faster than the ground, so you might have to water these tomatoes more often. Water containers slowly so the water can soak in around roots and not wash all nutrients in the potting mix out. Use a rich potting mix and add a cage or stake as the tomato grows.
Watering Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure Tomatoes
It is best to water a tomato consistently and slowly with a drip or soaker system, not with overhead spraying. Inconsistent watering (forgetting for a few days and making up for it with heavy watering) can lead to cracked fruit.
Feeding Tempting Tomatoes Garden Treasure Tomato Plants
Tomatoes need lots of nutrients to grow and ripen fruit, so help them with a balanced fertilizer. Avoid fertilizing on the hottest days. Spread a fruit and vegetable fertilizer around the outside base of the plant, not against the main stem, and then water as usual.
