The Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree produces large, rosy-pink fruit after displaying ornamental orange-red blooms. Mature plants typically reach 8–15 feet tall and about 10–15 feet wide, so it fits neatly into smaller yards. Unlike other fruit trees, it handles heat and drought once established and offers showy flowers and fruit on the same plant. We’ve found it’s easiest to enjoy when it’s planted where you can see the twisting trunk and spring flowers up close.

Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree Care

Plant in spring after the threat of frost has passed, setting it at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Space trees about 10–15 feet apart for air circulation and growing room. Give Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree full sun and well-drained soil (slightly sandy is fine) with a soil pH that sits slightly acidic to moderately alkaline. Prune in late winter to early spring to remove dead or crossing wood and to thin the center, and Keep mulch a few inches back from the trunk to prevent moisture problems.

Growing Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree

Expect first meaningful crops in about 3–4 years. After bloom, fruit typically matures after 6 months, landing in early fall in many warm climates. Give it room for its 8–15 foot height and 10–15 foot spread, but you can maintain a smaller silhouette with annual pruning. Start young plants outdoors in full sun once nights are reliably warm, and protect flowers from surprise late frosts in borderline areas.

Growing Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree in Containers

Use a large, heavy pot (15–25 gallons) with multiple drainage holes and a fast-draining fruit-tree potting mix. Plan to repot every couple of years into a slightly larger container with fresh mix. Containers are great for patios and for moving the plant to shelter during cold snaps, and this tree can play the “thriller” role with its sculptural trunk and upright branching. Pot it with basil plants and thyme for an edible pairing that stays tidy around the base. Great landscape companions include lavender and false sunflower to match the sun-loving, well-drained setup and keep the planting cohesive.

Watering Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree

Water deeply once or twice a week while it’s establishing. Afterward, let the top few inches of soil dry between waterings as the root system develops. If you see leaf yellowing with soft growth or constantly damp soil, reduce watering and improve drainage before roots suffer.

Feeding Texas Pink Pomegranate Tree

In early spring, apply a balanced fertilizer as new growth begins, and keep rates moderate rather than chasing extra growth. For potted plants, a half-strength liquid feed a few times during active growth helps replace nutrients that wash out with frequent watering.
