Green flowers in the garden are always worth a second look. Tilt a Swirl™ Hydrangea not only has a gorgeous lime green center, but juicy raspberry edges that give the giant bloom heads a very fun and light hearted feel. The compact shape of this deciduous shrub makes it a good fit for even the smallest of gardens. The low maintenance aspect makes it great for any sized garden,
Tilt A Swirl™ Blooms heavily in most light conditions, from full sun to mostly shade. The blooms make long lasting cut flowers. The dried blooms tend to keep their color better than other varieties. This patented Hydrangea will really appreciate a shady afternoon spot in the hotter zones of its range. Pests and diseases are rarely issues for Hydrangeas.
Tilt A Swirl™ Hydrangea Care
This Hydrangea will tolerate a wide range of soil pH and texture. A well drained and moist soil is a must. Hydrangeas like to have consistent moisture throughout the summer. Fertilizing is done once a season as the new growth emerges in the spring. A well balanced, slow release fertilizer is recommended. The blooming of this variety is constant and consistent throughout the summer. Deadheading can be done in the summer to keep the overall shape tidy.
Pruning of dead, dying, diseased and diagonal branches is best done early in the spring before new growth starts. Any heavy pruning to rejuvenate this shrub will cause a year’s delay of blooms. Hydrangeas make lovely low growing hedges that have an informal feel to them. They should not be treated as clipped hedges if the blooms are desired.
Tilt A Swirl™ Hydrangea Spacing
Tilt A Swirl™ is the perfect compact shape at 3 feet high and 3 feet wide. When planted as a hedge or in the garden border a 3 foot on center spacing is needed. Hydrangeas planted in containers will need at least a 24 inch diameter.
