When planting, choose a site with full sun or at least six hours of direct light per day. Aim for a rich, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Water regularly, letting the top inch of soil dry slightly between soakings. Feed with a balanced fertilizer monthly to sustain strong growth and steady blooms.
Remove faded flowers regularly to allow new buds to develop. Pinching young tips encourages branching, while thinning avoids overcrowding. Dig up tubers at the end of the season in cold climates, dry them, and store indoors if you plan to reuse them next year. Potted dahlias require careful watering to prevent waterlogged roots.
