Virtuoso™ Vibrant Violet™ Dahlia (Dahlia variabilis) displays intense purple flowers from early summer through autumn. healthy, deep green foliage frames each bloom for a striking look. This dahlia typically reaches 12 to 18 inches in height, adding color without overwhelming smaller spaces. It surpasses typical bedding plants with a longer flowering period and strong visual appeal.
Its neat, upright growth habit makes it easy to grow this dahlia in a container. Mild fragrance offers extra interest, and sturdy stems reduce the risk of breakage. Bred from plants in Central America, it shows moderate tolerance to dryness once established. Use it in mass plantings, along borders, or as a single highlight in a decorative pot.
Virtuoso™ Vibrant Violet™ Dahlia Care
Plant this dahlia in well-draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Provide full sun, though partial shade may be preferable in regions with intense midday heat. Water at the base, keeping leaves dry to reduce fungal issues, and feed monthly with a balanced fertilizer. Maintain a pH around 6.2 to 6.8 for robust growth.
Deadheading spent flowers promotes extended color. Pinch off shoots early to encourage branching, and thin out crowded stems for better airflow. Lightly shear any leggy growth to maintain a neat form. In cold climates, lift tubers for winter storage or move container-grown plants indoors before frost hits.
Virtuoso™ Vibrant Violet™ Dahlia Spacing
Place plants 12 to 18 inches apart in rows or groupings. A single plant in a border needs at least 15 inches to expand. Choose a pot with a 10-inch diameter for new tubers, and upgrade to a larger container if the plant outgrows its initial space.
