Calathea ‘Warscewiczii’, also known as Prayer plant or Jungle Velvet, is an exceptionally attractive tropical plant native to Central and South America that is sure to become a favorite in your collection. With its exotically patterned leaves, deep velvety multi-toned foliage in a fishtail pattern, and burgundy-colored undersides, Calathea ‘Warscewiczii’ is truly stunning.

Best Locations For Growing Warscewiczii Calathea

Place Warscewiczii in a spot that gets bright indirect light, and aim for 50-60% humidity levels and temperatures between 65 - 85 degrees F. Calatheas are intolerant of colder temperatures and should be placed away from chilly drafts.

Warscewiczii Calathea Sunlight Requirements

This Calathea requires medium to bright indirect light. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight.

Warscewiczii Calathea Care

Calathea ‘Warscewiczii’ prefers bright indirect light, warm temperatures, high humidity and consistently moist soil. Trim off any dry or damaged leaves or stems to leave room for healthy new growth. Calatheas prefer infrequent repotting, so only repot if your plant is rootbound. Use a loose indoor potting mix with plenty of organic matter such as peat/coir and perlite, or you can use an African violet mix. Propagate by division in spring or summer.

Watering Warscewiczii Calathea

Calathea ‘Warscewiczii’ likes consistently moist, well-draining soil. Water it using distilled or filtered water, or allow tap water to sit out for 24 hours before watering to evaporate excess chlorine. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy–allow the top few inches to completely dry out before watering. Water early in the day so the plant has ample time to dry before night–this helps avoid any fungal issues. Reduce watering during the winter months, when the Calathea growth rate is reduced.

Feeding Warscewiczii Calathea

Feed throughout the spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer, diluted to 1/4 - 1/2 the manufacturer’s recommended strength. Do not fertilize during the winter months. Flush the soil several times a year using filtered or distilled water to avoid salt buildup.
