The Xanadu Variegated Philodendron is a showy plant that changes with age but in the best way possible. Young plants have heart-shaped leaves in a light green hue. The foliage is accented with golden-yellow variegation radiating from the midrib to the edge. The glossy leaves maintain the variegation but develop deep lobes as they mature.

This plant is lovely at any size, but mature plants are huge and have finger-like lobes that extend almost to the center of the leaf. The Xanadu Variegated Philodendron or Giant Winterbourn was reclassified as Thaumatophyllum, so this plant is sometimes referred to as a Philodendron and a Thaumatophyllum xanadu.

Best Locations For Growing Xanadu Variegated Philodendron

Young plants can easily live on an end table or desk, but mature Xanadu Variegated Philodendrons stand up to 5 feet tall and wide. Available space is a consideration if you allow this plant to reach its full potential. Choose a sunny area with above-average humidity, if possible.

The Xanadu Variegated Philodendron is toxic to people and animals. While this stunning plant is beautiful, be aware of the safety issues if you have children or pets.

Xanadu Variegated Philodendron Sunlight Requirements

Bright, indirect sunlight is required for the Xanadu Variegated Philodendron. Increased sunlight maintains the sunny yellow variegation and encourages young plants to develop fenestrated foliage. Direct light will burn the leaves, so place the plant in a west-facing window or several feet away from a window with southern exposure.

Xanadu Variegated Philodendron Care

Remove dead or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and encourage abundant growth. Prune the plant to maintain its size if necessary. Repot Xanadu every one to two years as the plant becomes rootbound or needs fresh potting soil. Always use a container with drainage holes and give this Philodendron rich, moist, well-drained soil.

Watering Xanadu Variegated Philodendron

The Xanadu Variegated Philodendron has medium water requirements, so give it water when the top few inches of potting soil are dry. Soil deeper in the container can be damp, but wait until the top layer is dry to water. Saturate the soil to soak the root ball and remove the overflow from the tray or outer pot.

This plant can live in average humidity, although it is tropical, so it will be happy with increased humidity. Inspect the foliage and move the plant to an area with moisture in the air, or use a humidifier if you notice the leaves turning brown and brittle along the edges.

Feeding Xanadu Variegated Philodendron

Fertilize your Xanadu Variegated Philodendron monthly to keep it growing and healthy. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer that supports consistent and well-rounded growth. Feed the plant during the spring and summer when it is growing. Do not fertilize plants during the fall and winter as growth slows.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
