Amy Cotta Rhododendron, Rhododendron x USPP 11,311, is an early season flowering evergreen shrub. The dark foliage looks great all year long, and the plant is covered in ruffled lavender pink flowers in the spring.

Plant these as a landscape border for a beautiful edge year long. These are slow-growing and compact, and perfect for people with limited space. These plants also do great in garden planters.

These bushes are great for pollinators, including hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees.

Amy Cotta Rhododendron Care

These shrubs prefer moist but well drained soil, that is slightly acidic. Plant in an area that receives morning sunlight, but gets some afternoon shade if possible. Although, these plants can tolerate full sun (over 8 hours of sun per day). The rhododendron also does best in areas that are somewhat protected from the wind.

Pruning Amy Cotta Rhododendron is not necessary. Do trim dead or sick branches throughout the year. If you do wish to prune, it should be done immediately after flowering. This plant blooms on old wood, so if you prune too late in the year, you risk cutting off the following year’s flower buds.

Amy Cotta Rhododendron Spacing

These shrubs should be planted at least 5 feet apart, center on center. If you choose to plant in a garden container, be sure that the soil is well drained.

If you would like to plant these into a low mounding hedge, spacing should be closer to 36 inches apart, center on center. It makes for a beautiful evergreen hedge, that goes great along garden paths.
