Arctic Blaze® Purple Sage (Salvia hybrida ‘Novasalpur’) fills the landscape with tall spikes of bright purple flowers from spring all the way into fall. Nestled above gray-green foliage, each bloom brings a bold splash of color that easily draws in hummingbirds and other pollinators. Growing up to about 24 inches tall and spreading 36 inches wide, it suits both smaller gardens and more expansive borders. The extended blooming period and deer resistance make this salvia a must-have for sunny spaces.

Its compact habit and flexible stems help Arctic Blaze® Purple Sage endure wind and heat, reflecting the hardiness this series is known for. Native to warm regions of the Americas, salvia varieties like Arctic Blaze® Purple thrive in full sun and drier soil conditions. Use it in containers near patios for an ongoing display or plant it en masse in landscapes where continuous flowers are a priority. This salvia also complements mixed beds and pollinator gardens, often attracting curious butterflies along with hummingbirds.

Arctic Blaze® Purple Sage Care

Choose a location that receives at least six hours of direct sun per day for best flower production. Plant in moderately fertile, well-draining soil, and apply consistent water during the first growing season to support root establishment. After that, occasional watering suffices, especially in hot climates. A light, balanced fertilizer in early spring can promote vigorous new growth and abundant blooms.

Cut back any faded flower stalks throughout summer to encourage fresh buds. For container growth, use a potting mix with good drainage and water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. In colder zones, add mulch at the base of garden-planted specimens or move pots to a protected spot. Trim the plant to a few inches above ground level in late fall or early spring to stimulate healthy regrowth.

Separate individual plants by about 24 inches when arranging rows or mass plantings. In container settings, select a pot at least 12 inches wide to give roots ample space and and support the bushy top growth.
