This shrub will add a bright spot of glowing red color to your landscape during the cold, winter months. The stems turn bright red in the winter and look fabulous against the white snow. The stems can be cut to create gorgeous outdoor planters and holiday decorations.

Arctic Fire Dogwood is native to North America. Clusters of white flowers form on last year’s stem in the spring. The flowers produce white berries that are quickly eaten by birds soon after ripening. The flowers are attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds and this shrub is deer resistant.

Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood Care

Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood can be grown in partial or fun sun conditions in USDA hardiness zones 2 through 7. This shrub grows to be 3 to 5 feet in height and width at maturity in an upright form. This shrub tolerates wet soils so it can be planted in a low spot in your landscape or a rain garden. It can be used to create a short hedge, as a specimen plant, in a perennial garden or as a container plant. Plant this shrub in a location where you’ll often see it’s bright red stems during the dull days of winter.

Pruning Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood should be done in the fall. However, pruning and maintenance is not required. Newer stems exhibit brighter colors during the winter months. So cut older stems to the ground in the fall for a lovelier winter display. Trim back less than 25 percent of the stems if you do decide to prune.

Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood Spacing

Space multiple Arctic Fire Dogwood plants 4 feet apart on center to form a hedge. Plant at least 5 feet apart if space between the plants is desired.

I received my Red twig Dog wood in a timely manner. I was a tad wllted but as soon as I took it out of the box it perked right up! It's now in the ground and is a happy camper, growing well. I'm more than happy with it and this company I got it from.

    Perfect!

Posted by Angie Heflin on Jun 04, 2021

My plants arrived healthy and carefully packed so they did not get damaged by shipping. Once unpacked, they were full and green and looking pretty happy. They are planted and on their way. The order process was professional and so helpful. It’s great to have a source for those harder-to-find plants that you didn’t even know you needed!

Posted by Becca Templeton on Jun 30, 2020

I was nervous about ordering plants online as I assumed they wouldn’t survive the shipping. They arrived on a very hot day and still looked in great condition right out of the box. They’ve been planted for a few weeks and are already growing quickly.

Terrific shrub for very windy snowy...

Posted by Amy on May 14, 2020

My Arctic fire is about 5 years old now and grew well from the get go. It is about 5 1/2 feet tall now and as wide. It is in a very windy place and gets hammered with blizzards here on PEI. It is quite strong and retains most of its branches every year. Looks terrific in winter and in early spring, really brightens up the landscape. The leaves and summer flowers have interest as well. Great plant, attractive and tough.

I bought these to plant next to the ditch between my yard and the cornfield. That way there was some structure there, and it would look cool in the winter. Plant arrived in great shape, although they were smaller than I anticipated. Fingers crossed these grow fast because I'm impatient.
