The undulating leaves of Catch a Wave will bring a sense of movement to any patio or deck. Art and Sol™ Mangave features intense and unusual coloring, while being easy to grow, perfect for the beginner or advanced gardener. The icy blue and green colors of Catch a Wave look fabulous in container garden groupings or in a rock garden with other interesting succulents.

Mangave is mostly pest- and disease-free, deer resistant, and drought tolerant. Its leaf edges are far less spiky than either of its parents, Manfreda and Agave, making this beauty easy to handle and transplant. Art and Sol™ Mangaves are hardy in USDA zones 9-11 and perform beautifully in rock gardens, sloping sites, and foundation plantings in dry sunny locations. These versatile plants also perform well as potted plants grown indoors over the fall and winter.

Art & Sol™ Catch a Wave Mangave Care

Provide full sun exposure and plenty of drainage for a happy and healthy Mangave. Unlike other succulents, Mangave is much more tolerant of occasional overwatering as long as the soil continues to drain well. Allow the top 2-3 inches of potting mix or garden soil to dry between waterings. Feed Mangave regularly with a diluted liquid fertilizer made for succulent plants during the summer. During the fall and winter, these tender perennials require far less watering and no fertilizing.

Pruning is not needed for Mangaves, nor deadheading or pinching back. The only upkeep is the removal of older leaves as they die off around the outside of the plant. Typically this happens in the winter when the plant is indoors.

Bring Mangave indoors before the nighttime temperatures fall to 50 degrees F (10 C) and place it in a spot with direct sun exposure. South and southwest-facing windows are ideal. If you do not have a bright enough spot, use dedicated grow lights indoors.

Art & Sol™ Catch a Wave Mangave Spacing

The compact size of Catch a Wave is perfect for growing in pots. Choose a pot with plenty of bottom drainage and a diameter 2-3 inches larger than the root ball. If the pot is too large, the excess soil around the roots can cause problems over time. Regularly repot Mangave until it reaches its full size of 8 inches tall and 18-20 inches wide. In the landscape, space mangaves 18 inches from other plants.
