Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris, or Iris sibirica 'Cape Cod Boys' is a beachy, perennial Iris with upright, sky-blue flowers with fluid midnight blue veins and sunny yellow signals. This beardless ocean beauty grows in clumps of thin, vivid green, knife-point leaves that produce slender stems from 27 to 32 inches tall, each holding 2 to 5 blossoms that bloom in early summer and rebloom well into early fall. It is a vigorous plant that spreads from 18 to 24 inches.
Native to Europe and Asia, this award-winning Siberian Iris is a low-maintenance, colorful option for any budding gardener. It is deciduous in winter and attracts hummingbirds. One of its greatest appeals is its resistance to common diseases that plague other varieties of Iris.
Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris Care
The Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris prefers full sun, but can tolerate partial sun in hot areas. In order to thrive, it needs moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. In a naturalized setting, they can be planted in areas with very moist to wet soil.
In colder areas, The Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris should be planted in early spring to late summer. In milder areas, it is better to plant in the fall. This variety should be water liberally after planting until it is well-established. In the fall, prune away dead foliage.
Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris Spacing
The Cape Cod Boys Siberian Iris should be spaced 1 to 2 feet apart. They are an excellent choice for rain gardens or around ponds, lakes, pools and stream sides. This variety is not affected by juglone, so they can be grown under Black Walnut Trees. Siberian Irises bloom before Japanese irises, but after tall bearded varieties.
