Enjoy a tasty summer-time treat when you plant the Chandler Highbush Blueberry in your yard. This deciduous shrub produces a high yield of large berries, and it is also a lovely plant to feature in a space. This large bush has dark green foliage and, during the spring, will have gorgeous bell-shaped white blooms. The blooms will fade and be replaced by large berries during the summer. By fall, the foliage will turn a reddish-purple, and once the foliage drops, you will enjoy vivid red stems that stand out in the winter landscape.

Chandler Highbush Blueberry Care

The Chandler Highbush Blueberry needs full to partial sun. Create a hedge or border by spacing bushes 6 to 7 feet apart. This large perennial will reach 5 to 7 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide. Soil should be rich, moist, well-drained, and slightly acidic.

Growing Chandler Highbush Blueberry

This bush will bear fruit during the first growing season. If you remove the flowers during the first year, the plant will focus its energy on establishing a strong root system, which can help the plant settle in more quickly. The Chandler Highbush Blueberry does not typically require much pruning, but trim the plant as needed in the late winter.

Growing Chandler Highbush Blueberry in Containers

This large plant can grow 7 feet tall, and this cultivar can be grown in a container with proper care. Select a pot about 14 inches in diameter and water when the top few inches of soil dry out.

Watering Chandler Highbush Blueberry

Regularly water this plant for the first two years. New plants will need 1 to 2 inches of water each week. Established plants will need 1 inch of water every week and a half, and rain is usually enough to support an established blueberry bush.

Feeding Chandler Highbush Blueberry

Feed the Chandler Highbush Blueberry using an acid fertilizer during the spring. Top dress the soil with organic mulch each year to provide an extra dose of nutrients and help retain moisture.
