The Cherry on Top™ Sorbaria is an enchanting perennial shrub that adds color and texture to a landscape, making it the perfect way to top off a well-manicured space. The Sorbaria sorbifolia has white flower plumes that bloom in summer before transforming into clusters of vibrant red seed pods that dangle from the branches while providing attractive fall color. The stems are dotted with evenly spaced narrow green foliage that comes to a point.
Sorbaria will grow about 4 to 5 feet tall and wide, making it a natural fit for borders and mass plantings. Feature this shrub on a slope or embankment to stabilize the ground or add vivid color and texture to a space. Sorbaria plants thrive in containers which enable you to feature the plant on a patio or balcony. Songbirds will be drawn to the plant in the fall when the seed pods are available. This very hardy plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 2 through 10.
Cherry on Top™ Sorbaria Care
This shrub needs full to partial sun, so at least 4 to 6 hours of light. Average soil is alright, but the soil needs to be moist and well-drained. Water once a week or whenever the top layer of the soil dries out.
Prune this plant as necessary in the spring. Apply a balanced fertilizer at the start of the growing season to encourage new growth and prolific blooms.
Cherry on Top™ Sorbaria Spacing
The Cherry on Top™ Sorbaria is an upright perennial that will reach 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. One plant can be grown in a 12- to 14-inch container or space plants 2 to 4 feet apart.
