Holiday Junior Giant Arborvitae (Thuja standishii x plicata ‘Junior Giant’) impresses with its scaled-down version of the famous Green Giant, sporting dense evergreen foliage and a uniform, pyramidal habit. Growing to about 15–20 feet tall and a fraction of the width of larger arborvitae, it’s an excellent fit for smaller yards or tight screening. Its emerald-green needles hold their color through harsh weather, offering a welcoming contrast against a winter landscape. Plus, it’s notably hardy and rarely needs pruning, making it a dependable option for year-round beauty.
Unlike plastic décor, a live Junior Giant Arborvitae provides fresh scent and long-lasting value. After brightening your indoor space for the holidays, you can transplant it in spring as a permanent addition to the landscape. This approach not only reduces waste but also delights guests with the real pine aroma and a timeless, natural style. Give it as a gift or keep it as a personal treasure—either way, it’s a thoughtful way to embrace the season and beyond.
Holiday Junior Giant Arborvitae Care
Position your arborvitae in a spot near a sunny window from January to early spring, watering lightly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Rotate the pot each week so it grows evenly, and if the indoor air is dry, mist occasionally to keep needles healthy. Steer clear of vents or heaters, which can cause the foliage to dehydrate.
When outdoor temperatures warm and the final frost is behind you, gradually move your Junior Giant outdoors for a week or two so it acclimates to bright light and shifting temps. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, placing the tree so that its base sits level with the surrounding soil. Water thoroughly after planting, and top with a layer of mulch to help preserve moisture. With minimal care, your Junior Giant will mature into a charming, space-saving evergreen for years of enjoyment.
