Growing Zones
A dwarf evergreen variety of Mondo Grass, perfect for use as a groundcover or edging. Striking in mass plantings or in rock gardens. Excellent substitute for grass where grass doesn’t grow well or in hard to mow areas, such as slopes. Dwarf Mondo Grass botanical name is Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nanus'. There is also mondo grass which grows up to 15 inches tall.
Dwarf Mondo Grass Care
Plant in well-drained soil and water regularly to establish. Once established, Mondo Grass is drought tolerant. Mulch new plantings, after applying a pre-emergent herbicide to control weeds. Does not tolerate a great deal of foot traffic. Mow in late fall or early spring.
Dwarf Mondo Grass Spacing
You can plant these plugs 2-4 inches apart, depending on how fast you want the grass to fill in between. Stagger rows to help provide better coverage (image below).
