Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs send up tall fuchsia-pink flower spikes with a confident cut-flower presence. Gladiolus 'Fidelo' grows 36 to 60 inches tall, producing large blooms on upright stems that stand above lower annuals and perennials. The saturated pink color is strong enough for borders, but refined enough for fresh arrangements. Our garden designers like planting this one in groups of five or more because the color has far more impact when the stems rise together.

This spring-planted gladiolus grows from corms and flowers in mid-summer, usually after warm soil has helped the roots establish. It is hardy in zones 8 to 10 and can be grown as a summer bulb in colder regions, then lifted for winter storage. The tall spikes attract hummingbirds and butterflies, while deer typically pass them by. Use Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs in cutting rows, sunny fence-line beds, large containers, or mixed borders where upright pink flowers can carry the planting through late summer.

Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs Care

Choose a full sun site with at least 6 hours of direct light, since shaded gladiolus often lean and bloom with shorter stems. Plant in loose, well-drained soil, with compost worked in if the bed is sandy, compacted, or low in organic matter. A slightly acidic to neutral pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is a good range for strong corm development.

Plant after the last frost once soil has warmed, since cold wet soil can slow growth or rot the corms. After planting, water once to settle the soil, then wait for growth before moving into a regular watering pattern. When leaves are actively growing, soak the root zone whenever the soil dries several inches down; flower spikes that slow to stretch often need steadier moisture. Feed when you can feel buds forming low in the leaf fan, using a bloom-supporting fertilizer according to the label.

Cut stems early in the day when the lowest one or two florets begin to open, and leave several leaves behind to rebuild the corm. Remove finished flower stalks rather than letting them set seed. In zones 3 to 7, dig corms after frost has browned the foliage, dry them in a ventilated place, and store them cool and frost-free until spring.

Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs Spacing

Plant Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs 4 to 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart, setting the pointed side upward. For a longer cutting season, plant a few corms every 1 to 2 weeks from spring into early summer. In containers, use a deep pot at least 16 inches wide with drainage holes, and add a low support ring early so stems grow through it naturally.

For container companions, use petchoa, alyssum, or sweet potato vines around Fidelo Gladiolus Bulbs to cover the soil surface while keeping the tall flower spikes open. In landscape beds, coneflower and agastache share the sunny, well-drained conditions and continue the pollinator value after the first gladiolus stems are cut. Maiden grass gives a fine-textured backdrop for the tall pink spikes, and Shasta daisies add clean lower flowers that balance the height without crowding the corms.
