Firefly Fuchsia Yarrow is a perfect example of a gorgeous yet tough as nails plant. The dainty fuchsia-colored flowerheads smother the sturdy stems for weeks from summer through fall. All the while, the flowers attract absolutely any beneficial insect and pollinator in your yard. Achillea hybrid ‘Firefly Fuchsia’ is a cultivar of the North American native wildflower and displays all of the best characteristics of the original.
Yarrow is one of the best plants for pollinator gardens and is indispensable for adding color to cottage gardens, cut-flower gardens, and pots and planters on decks, patios, or balconies. Firefly has a long stem that gives it a vertical presence in the garden or a flower vase. Yarrow is also an ideal flower for drying and displaying through the winter, as it keeps its vibrant color. This herbaceous perennial is ignored by deer and highly resistant to mildew.
Firefly Fuchsia Yarrow Care
Yarrow will grow in almost any soil as long as it drains well year-round. This plant does not tolerate seasonal flooding or boggy soils. Make sure to plant it in full sun. Apply a 1-2 inch layer of compost or finely shredded arborist chips in the spring to enrich the soil and aid in moisture retention over time.
Caring for Yarrow is as easy as cutting back any spent growth in early spring. This not only reveals the fresh young growth, but also helps to protect the crown of the plant during the winter. Once growth begins, the ends of the stems can be pinched just above a set of leaves to encourage dense branching and heavy flowering. After the first flush of flowers, plants can be sheared back to 1/2 their height, encouraging new growth and a second, or even third, flush of blooms.
Firefly Fuchsia Yarrow Spacing
The compact size of Firefly Fuchsia tops out at 24 inches tall and 30 inches wide. Space plants 24 inches apart when creating natural drifts. Select containers with at least a 12-inch diameter to grow a single plant. Plants in a mixed container can be spaced 18 inches apart for a full and lush look.
