Fruit Punch® Whipped Cream Dianthus brings double white flowers and silvery-blue foliage together on a compact plant that stays just 8 to 10 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. Dianthus x 'Whipped Cream' stands apart from many pinks because the blooms are fuller, the foliage stays attractive beyond flowering, and the white flower color is easier to weave into mixed plantings than the usual pink tones. It also adds more visual contrast in summer, when the cool-toned leaves help the flowers look fresh instead of washed out in strong sun. We recommend it when a border needs a lighter note that still feels substantial up close.
This evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial carries a light clove fragrance and reblooms through summer into fall, drawing pollinators. Fruit Punch® Whipped Cream handles heat, short dry spells, deer, and even some salt exposure better than many small flowering perennials. The mounded habit stays low and orderly, which makes it useful for border fronts, gravel gardens, path edges, and mixed containers. Its flowers are also worth cutting, since the double form gives arrangements a cleaner, fuller look than standard single dianthus blooms.
Fruit Punch® Whipped Cream Dianthus Care
Plant Fruit Punch® Whipped Cream Dianthus in full sun to part sun, with the heaviest bloom set in sites that get at least 6 hours of direct light. Grow it in loose, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, ideally around 6.5 to 7.5. Sharp drainage is important, especially in winter, because wet crowns are far more damaging than cold.
Water to keep the soil lightly moist while plants establish, then let the top inch dry between soakings. A modest spring feeding with a balanced fertilizer is usually enough, since overfeeding can loosen the mound and reduce flower production. In colder climates the foliage may look rough by late winter, but the plant usually greens up again as new growth begins.
Remove spent flowers to keep rebloom moving, or shear the plant lightly after a main flush to tidy the foliage and encourage another wave. Avoid cutting into an old woody crown, and leave healthy green growth in place so recovery is quicker. In colder container plantings, protect pots from repeated freeze-thaw cycles or move them to a sheltered spot for winter.
Fruit Punch® Whipped Cream Dianthus Spacing
Space plants 12 to 14 inches apart so each mound can fill in without crowding the crown of the next plant. For containers, use a pot at least 12 inches wide for one plant, or a wider bowl if you want to combine it with trailing fillers.
In the landscape, pair it with coral bells and catmint for a cool-toned planting that highlights the crisp white flowers. In containers, combine it with bacopa for spill and coleus for leaf contrast without overwhelming the compact dianthus form.
