Say goodbye to dull shady landscapes with Gigantosaurus Hosta! This must-have perennial boasts massive, blue-green leaves with creamy yellow margins. Growing 6-7 feet wide, Gigantosaurus Hosta will quickly fill bare spots under larger trees and shrubs. Gigantosaurus Hosta emerges early in spring, swiftly unfurling an attractive rosette of large, ovate foliage. Moreover, the pretty scapes of pale purple flowers will have hummingbirds flocking to your garden in summer.
Gigantosaurus Hosta is both low maintenance and easy to grow. Its neat, mounded form allows it to fill many roles in your garden. Plant several Gigantosaurus Hostas together for an impressive display of foliage, or grow them with other colorful hostas, woodland wildflowers, and ferns for an interesting shade garden or border. Try growing Gigantosaurus Hosta in containers for a lovely specimen on shaded patios, balconies, and porches.
Gigantosaurus Hosta Care
Gigantosaurus Hosta grows best in full to partial shade. Dappled or morning sunlight can make the foliage more vibrant, but too much sun can result in burned, browning leaves. Gigantosaurus Hosta prefers moist, well-drained, and slightly acidic soil for best growth and color. Once established, this plant will become drought tolerant, especially if planted in full shade. Incorporate a few inches of organic matter, such as compost, into your soil at planting time to encourage lush growth. Mulch around your Gigantosaurus Hosta to help maintain soil moisture and temperature.
If desired, prune the flower scapes of Gigantosaurus Hosta once it has finished flowering or when more than three-quarters of the buds have bloomed. To prevent future snail and slug damage, remove the dead leaves of Gigantosaurus Hosta in winter, which may harbor eggs.
Hostas can be easily divided in spring or fall. Simply dig up the plant and use a spade to separate the larger clump into smaller clumps; then replant them around your garden and water them well.
If growing Gigantosaurus Hosta in containers, provide extra winter care by moving the container to a sheltered, unheated location, such as a shed or garage. Alternatively, top the container with several inches of mulch to discourage frost heaving, and wrap the sides of the pot with burlap.
Gigantosaurus Hosta Spacing
Since Gigantosaurus Hosta can get quite large, it must have enough space to grow horizontally. Plant each Gigantosaurus Hosta at least 5-7 feet apart to allow plenty of room for it to spread. When growing this perennial in a container, select a pot that is about 3 inches wider than the root ball on all sides.
