Grape Expectations Coral Bells show off vibrant, grape-purple colors with deeply lobed foliage of varying sizes. You’ll notice smaller leaves appearing at the top and larger ones toward the bottom of the plant. Its foliage will emerge during early springtime. Additionally, during June, your perennial will grow lovely white flowers, and once fully grown, the plant may reach a total height of about 34 inches and a total spread of approximately 24 inches. This striking perennial will attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Native to the Southeastern United States, this tough perennial is drought, deer, and disease resistant. It is also evergreen when in warmer growing conditions. Your Grape Expectations Coral Bells will grow at a medium rate unless you plant them in an area without direct sunlight. A shaded area will slow down the perennial’s overall growth rate. You can plant these low-maintenance perennials in the front of a border, rock garden, or in a container.

Grape Expectations Coral Bells Plant Care

You can grow your Grape Expectations Coral Bells perennial in full shade if you don’t mind a slow growth rate. Alternatively, you can plant it in an area where it can get full sun and some partial afternoon shade. You can choose between well-drained soil that is either neutral or acidic. When watering, water your perennial thoroughly and allow the soil time to dry a bit before watering it again. However, be sure not to let the soil dry out completely. You may also use a slow-release fertilizer once a year.

To keep your perennial in good shape, you can prune lifeless or old leaves during the wintertime before new leaves begin growing. You can also get rid of spent stems during the season as this will aid with reblooming. Avoid pruning near the small leaves emerging from the center as they can become easily damaged.

Grape Expectations Coral Bells Plant Spacing

Leave at least 18 inches of space for mass plantings. If you are planting your perennials between other plants, leave a minimum of 36 inches of space in between them.
