Growing Zones
The Guava Lava Agastache adds height and pollinator-friendly flowers to a landscape. Tubular flowers densely grow on upright flower spikes. The flowers are a coral-orange hue and feature contrasting mauve calyxes. The Agastache ‘Guava Lava’ has medium green foliage that comes to a point and grows along the lower portions of the upright stems.
The dense, rounded form of the Guava Lava Agastache works well in a mixed bed or border. The tall flower spikes add height, so feature it near the middle or back of a mixed planting, depending on the other plants in the space. The height of the Agastache works as a thriller in a mixed container. The Guava Lava Agastache is low-maintenance and heat tolerant, so it can handle soaring summer temperatures.
Guava Lava Agastache Care
Grow Guava Lava Agastache in full sun and in well-drained soil. This tough perennial grows well in poor, rocky soils, where other plants may struggle. New plants need consistent water to help the roots settle in. Mature plants are drought tolerant, but water during a long dry period keeps the plants growing and thriving. Agastaches are not heavy feeders, but benefit from a light dose of slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Remove faded flowers to extend the bloom cycle. The Guava Lava Agastache is an herbaceous perennial, so trim growth to a few inches above ground level in late winter or early spring.
Guava Lava Agastache Spacing
Guava Lava Agastache plants reach 20 to 22 inches tall and 22 to 26 inches wide. Space plants 22 to 26 inches apart to create a dense bed.
