Bring effortless island vibes to any room with Hawaiian Kentia Palm. Graceful, arching fronds and a naturally upright habit deliver a polished, resort feel without demanding bright sun or constant care. Slow growing and long lived, it’s an easy upgrade for foyers, living rooms, and workspaces.
This palm stays elegant as it matures, filling vertical space while keeping a tidy footprint. It’s adaptable in typical homes, playing well with containers and modern décor from minimal to boho.
Hawaiian Kentia Palm Care
Give bright, indirect light for best growth; it also tolerates medium to low light a few feet from a window. Use a well-draining potting mix (all-purpose indoor mix amended with perlite or pine bark), targeting pH 6.0–7.0. Water when the top 1–2 inches of mix are dry, then water thoroughly until excess drains; never let the pot sit in water. Maintain 60–85°F; avoid cold drafts and temps below 55°F. Aim for average to moderate humidity (40–60%); occasional misting or a pebble tray helps in very dry rooms.
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer or a palm-specific formula; withhold feeding in fall and winter. Groom by dusting fronds and snipping fully brown leaf tips; do not cut green tissue. Repot every 2–3 years in spring, only one pot size up to protect the root ball. Outdoors, suitable for frost-free zones 9–11 with afternoon shade.
Hawaiian Kentia Palm Spacing
Place 3–6 feet from an east or west window, or 6–10 feet from a bright south window out of direct sun. Allow a 2–3 foot radius for frond spread and easy passage. Start young plants in a 10–12 inch pot with drainage; size up to 14–16 inches as roots fill the container. Use a saucer to catch runoff, and empty after watering.
Keep at least 12 inches from walls to prevent frond scuffing; rotate the pot monthly for even growth. Stake only if newly planted and top-heavy.
