Growing Zones
For a strong, yet elegant way to line your driveway or the perimeter of your home, choose the Italian Cypress. A fast-growing tree, viewers will be taken aback by these magnificent evergreen columnar pillars. Excellent for use on the coasts, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better way to put your landscaping on the map.
Before purchasing, make sure you have adequate space for these giants. Stretching 50’-60’ into the sky, the Italian Cypress only spans 4’-6’ across. Emitting luscious blue-green color year-round, this tree is one of the most gorgeous privacy trees available. However, they also look amazing in groups of 3, 5, or 7 as a way to accentuate a deck or draw focus to a fountain or other type of thriller.
Italian Cypress Care
Once established, these are heavy-duty trees that require next to no maintenance. These trees need an abundant amount of sun, well-drained soil, and a medium amount of water to dig in. After taking root, the Italian Cypress is drought-tolerant and can survive in extremely harsh conditions. Pruning is rarely necessary – occasionally, you’ll need to clip an errant or broken branch. To achieve a classic formal look, a simple shear job can be done without fear of damaging the tree.
Italian Cypress Spacing
Because the Italian Cypress necessitates a hearty amount of sun and water for early growth, planting needs to allow for at least 5’ of space per tree. In the case that your trees are being used as accents, opt for closer to 10’ to enjoy the tree’s full spread.
