- Great With Meat & Soup
- 18 Inches Tall
- 18 Inches Wide
- Plant in Full Sun
Dark and flavorful leaves make Italian Dark Single Parsley a garden and culinary favorite. The flat (vs. curly) leaves are useful in nearly any meat or soup dish. They also make a pretty and fragrant garnish for dishes. In the garden, Italian parsley grows well as an annual plant, so it will have to be replaced each year. But you can harvest, dry and store parsley leaves in summer for year-round use. The parsley plant will grow to nearly 18 inches high and wide, so it is a good choice for garden beds or containers.
Flat parsleys take heat better than curly ones, so this is a good choice for gardeners who have hot summers. Plant Italian Dark Single Parsley in a container in zones 7 or cooler. The plant can enjoy the outdoor heat in summer and be brought inside in fall to extend harvest.
Italian Dark Single Parsley Care
Plant Italian Dark Single Parsley in a sunny spot, placing the plant in a hole at least two times larger around than the pot it comes in. The soil should be rich and moist. Water immediately after refilling the hole and packing the dirt down lightly. If planting several parsleys, space them about 8 to 12 inches apart.
Growing Italian Dark Single Parsley
Harvest parsley leaves or stems any time after the plant is established in its garden or container spot (usually within a few weeks). You can grow parsley indoors in a container if the soil is kept evenly moist and the plant gets about 5 hours of indirect sun or light from a grow light.
Italian Dark Single Parsley is an excellent indoor herb. It should be planted in a container that is wider and deeper than the plant starts at. Water slowly and deeply and empty the saucer beneath the parsley if water is standing in it; this keeps the roots from getting too wet.
Watering Italian Dark Single Parsley
Parsley needs regular, consistent watering so the soil is evenly moist. When leaves wilt, the parsley plant is signaling it needs water.
Feeding Italian Dark Single Parsley
Give parsley a balanced vegetable fertilizer a few times during its growing season to ensure it grows well and packs flavor. Slow-release organic fertilizers are a popular choice for feeding parsley.
