Jacuzzi Tulip Bulbs bring a refined color shift that feels rare in a spring tulip, opening mauve-lavender and aging toward silvery lilac. That cool flower color sits on unusually dark purple stems, giving the whole plant a more tailored look than many pastel tulips. The blooms reach about 16 to 18 inches tall and hold the classic Triumph tulip shape that florists count on for clean spring bouquets. Our designer says 'Jacuzzi' looks especially sharp in plantings that lean cool-toned, where its stem color becomes part of the display.
This Triumph tulip offers sturdy stems, a slightly fragrant bloom, and a mid- to late-spring season that follows many early bulbs. The flower interior stays deeper lavender, while the outer petals lighten with age and show white highlights near the surface. Plant it in cutting gardens, formal bulb beds, patio containers, or small groupings near an entry where the color detail can be appreciated up close. Like most modern tulips, Jacuzzi may return with excellent drainage and a dry summer rest in colder regions.
Jacuzzi Tulip Care
Plant Jacuzzi Tulip Bulbs in full sun to light shade, with at least 6 hours of direct sun preferred in spring. Choose well-drained loam or sandy loam with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of about 6.0 to 7.0. Avoid low areas that collect winter water, since tulip bulbs decline quickly in saturated soil.
After planting, water once deeply so soil settles around the bulbs and root growth can begin. During spring growth, check the bed during dry spells and water when the upper soil feels dry several inches down. Reduce irrigation after flowering because tulips prefer a drier dormancy period. Apply bulb fertilizer at planting or as shoots emerge. A light mulch after the ground cools helps buffer freeze-thaw swings without holding excess moisture against the bulbs.
Remove faded blooms before seed pods form, leaving the stem and foliage to keep feeding the bulb. Wait until the leaves yellow fully before cutting them away. For forcing or container displays, chill bulbs before growth begins and use forced bulbs as seasonal color rather than long-term garden plants.
Jacuzzi Tulip Spacing
Space Jacuzzi Tulip Bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart in beds, or plant 5 to 6 bulbs per square foot for a fuller block of color. Set bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep with the pointed end facing up, positioning the flatter basal plate at the bottom. For containers, choose a pot at least 12 inches deep with drainage holes, plant bulbs close but not touching, and keep the pot evenly cool through winter.
For container companions, use pansies and alyssum to cover the soil surface without competing with the tulip stems. In the landscape, pair Jacuzzi with hellebores for early foliage, lungwort for silver-patterned leaves, and boxwoods for a clipped evergreen frame that makes the mauve-lilac flowers feel more polished.
FAQs
When should I plant these bulbs?
Plant in the fall before the first hard freeze (typically September through November). Cooler soil lets roots form over winter so the bulbs can push up strong blooms in spring.
Can I cut these tulips for vases?
Yes, Jacuzzi Tulips make lovely cut flowers. Harvest when buds begin to open for the best vase life (usually up to about a week with fresh water).
How tall do they grow and how close should I plant them?
Expect stems around 16–18 inches tall. Space bulbs 4–6 inches apart to allow room for the foliage and flowers to fill in.
Do I need to do anything special after they finish blooming?
Let the leaves die back naturally so the bulbs can recharge. Remove spent foliage only after it has yellowed. In containers you can leave bulbs in place or lift and store them in a cool, dry spot if you prefer.
