Maestro® Gold Hummingbird Mint stands out for its relentless flowering from early season through fall. This Agastache hybrid pushes up saturated golden yellow spikes for months, forming a tidy upright clump 18–24 inches tall and 10–18 inches wide. It delivers the bold presence of taller varieties in a more manageable size, making it easier to design with in both landscapes and statement containers. We especially recommend it for gardeners who want continuous color without the usual maintenance interruptions.
Bred for strong garden performance, Maestro® Gold has proven itself in heat and humidity, earning multiple 2025 Top Performer recognitions across university trials. Fragrant green foliage releases a light minty scent when brushed. Pollinators flock to the nectar-rich flowers, and hummingbirds return repeatedly, while deer typically pass it by. Its upright habit makes it an ideal thriller in large patio planters or a bright vertical accent in sunny borders and mass plantings.
Maestro® Gold Hummingbird Mint Care
Plant Maestro® Gold in full sun, providing at least six hours of direct light daily for the heaviest flowering. Choose sharply drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH around 6.5–7.5, as consistently soggy conditions can compromise root health. In garden beds, loosen soil and amend with coarse compost if drainage is questionable; in containers, use a high-quality potting mix and ensure drainage holes are unobstructed.
Water thoroughly after planting, then allow the top inch or two of soil to dry before watering again. Container-grown plants benefit from slightly reduced watering as temperatures cool in fall. A light application of balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every two to three weeks during active growth will support steady blooming without excessive foliage.
Deadheading is not required for rebloom, but removing spent spikes can keep plants looking polished. Avoid heavy trimming once buds are forming, as this may delay flowering. In warm zones where it behaves as a short-lived perennial, cut plants back in late winter before new growth emerges.
Maestro® Gold Hummingbird Mint Spacing
Space plants 12–18 inches apart in garden beds to allow air circulation and full development of the upright habit. For containers, start with at least a 12-inch diameter pot for a single plant, or use larger mixed planters when designing a bold centerpiece.
Pair in the landscape with coneflower, Russian sage, or black-eyed Susans for a heat-tolerant, pollinator-focused border. In containers, combine with lantana or sweet pootato vines for contrasting texture and season-long color.
