Growing Zones
Mojo Pittosporum is a small evergreen shrub with variegated foliage. Its glossy green yellow-edged foliage will provide year-round color in a partially sunny to shady area in your landscape. Locations that receive morning sun and afternoon shade are best. Pittosporum tobira 'CNI Three' has a high degree of salt tolerance making it a great choice for coastal areas and along the road or winter salt-treated sidewalks.
Plant Mojo Pittosporum in USDA hardiness zones 7 to 10 in well-drained soil. This plant produces creamy white flowers in the spring that have a wonderful scent similar to that of orange blossoms. Plant one near your patio, porch or a frequently used walkway to fully experience the delightful fragrance. This slow-growing compact plant will ultimately reach a height and width of 3 feet. Mojo Pittosporum is also deer resistant.
Mojo Pittosporum Care
This plant can be used individually to create a statement, in mass plantings, in a row to create a low hedge or near building foundations. It’s easy to take care of since it is resistant to drought, insects, diseases, mildew and summer heat. Apply a balanced slow-release each spring for optimum plant health. You can also top-dress with compost if desired.
Pruning Mojo Pittosporum should be done in the winter or early spring. To prune, cut away unwanted or weak branches a quarter inch away from the main branch. Do not cut too close, to prevent damage to the main part of the plant. Trim away dead or sick branches anytime of the year to help encourage healthy, disease-free growth. You may also cut off main branches to help control the size of the plant. We recommend using loppers or electric hedges, as these plants can grow quite large.
Mojo Pittosporum Spacing
Plant them 2 to 2.5 feet apart to create solid hedges and mass plantings and at least 5 feet apart if you want space between the plants for walking or to plant something else.
